They've raised you right

Now, they need your help

If you’re like me, your parents mean the world to you. After all, they’ve devoted much of their lives toward molding you into the person you are today, often at tremendous personal sacrifice and great expense. They’ve kept you safe and supported you in times of need. They’ve been your teachers, mentors, and role models. They’ve instilled into you those core values that now define you.

But now the roles are reversed. Your parents are aging, their health is quickly declining, and they are struggling to live independently. Now, it’s THEY who need YOUR help.

Perhaps you’ve raised a family yourself and have navigated a successful career. You’re smart and you’ve dealt with your share of crises. Certainly, you can handle this one.

Or can you?

As it turns out, the world of late-life care, and the decision-making process surrounding it, is way more complicated than you ever thought it could be, and you find yourself with more questions than answers. Should your parents attempt to age in place, maybe with the help of an outside agency or home healthcare service? You’ve heard horror stories about such services. How might you find one you can trust, and how might you monitor that situation? Would a facility of some sort provide a safer, easier option? Are your parents even open to such a move? If not, how might you initiate a conversation with them without soliciting too much emotional pushback?

As you attempt to research options, you’re encountering all sorts of new terms. “Assisted Living”, “Skilled Nursing”, “Personal Care”, “Independent Living”, and “CCRC” are just a few that you might come across. If a cognitive decline like dementia or Alzheimer’s is part of the equation, you’re discovering an entirely different set of considerations. And then there are the financial implications, which can be the scariest and most daunting aspect of all.

Of course, you’re seeking guidance from your parents’ medical practitioners, but that entire community seems disinterested, and nobody is willing to help manage their big picture. You’re calling around to various service providers and facilities in your parents’ locale, but the cost seems exorbitant, and the conversations feel “salesy”. Google reviews for these businesses are all over the map, and you have no way of accurately gauging their true reputations. You’re frustrated, and you’ve never felt more helpless.

I know exactly what you’re going through, and I can help!

I've spent my career helping seniors

Put my experience to work for you

As a Registered Nurse, I’ve spent the last 30 years passionately caring for the geriatric community, and deciphering the complexities associated with late-life care. I began my career as a Medical-Surgical Nurse on the geriatric floor of a suburban Philadelphia hospital and later spent time there as a Case Manager. I’ve had tenures at multiple Assisted Living and CCRC Communities throughout Philadelphia, Montgomery, and Bucks Counties, managing patient care plans and dealing with both private and public insurance reimbursement. I’ve also contributed in a leadership capacity to non-medical homecare agencies.

But, maybe even more important is the fact that I’ve experienced with my own parents everything you’re currently going through, and I know firsthand how frustrating and taxing the process can be. While helping each of them navigate through their own unique situation, I’ve found myself fortunate to be able to lean on my knowledge, background, and extensive professional network to make the best decisions possible. I’ve also come to the realization that others aren’t so fortunate to have a background like mine, and surely need help. Maybe lots of help.

One Life Consulting was born from this realization, as well as a genuine desire to help both the elderly and their adult children navigate through some of life’s biggest challenges.

If you find yourself trying to make sense of your parents late-life options or need expert help in any way, know that you are not alone. I am always just a phone call away.
